    20 hours OR 40 hours if Competent Crew Ashore certificate has not been completed by start date. Certificate of Competency
    ISPA Competent Crew Basic/Sail.

    Certified to live aboard a sailing vessel in tidal waters as Competent Crew. In an emergency, be able to substitute as skipper. Competent to sail a vessel under 30 ft, where no navigational hazards exist, within 5 miles of safe harbor, during daylight hours only, in light to moderate wind conditions.
    Day Skipper Sail: (Intermediate Coastal Cruising).

    ISPA Day Skipper Intermediate/Charter Sail
    The holder is certified as the skipper of a live aboard sailing vessel, to be responsible for the safety of his/her vessel and crew, while day sailing in familiar waters, within 10 miles of safe harbor, during daylight, in moderate wind and sea conditions using basic navigational skills.
    Coastal Navigation.

    Shore based course.

    No navigation knowledge required.
    Preferably ISPA Day Skipper, or some on the water experience.

    Classroom course or Correspondence Course completing ISPA Coastal Navigation workbook and chart work exercises.

    The holder is certified to be competent to navigate a cruising vessel safely, in coastal/tidal waters, within 25 miles of safe harbor, by day, using charts, a hand bearing compass, GPS, and navigational aids.
    Coastal Skipper: (Advanced Sailing Course).

    The holder is certified as the skipper and navigator the be resonsible fr the safety of his/her vessel and crew, for coastal passages within 50 miles of a safe harbor in coastal/tidal waters where navigational hazard exist day or night with good visiblility.

  • Plus 600 miles 10 days as skipper.
  • VHF or GMDDS Radio. First Aid plus CPR
  • Live aboard Course in Tidal waters.
  • ISPA Practical Yachtmaster Offshore standard as per Logbook
  • Must stand a rotational navigational watch for the duration of the course. More details
  • Minimum 7 days covering at least 250 miles with 2 overnight passages Certificate of Competency ISPA Yachtmaster Offshore Sail
    The holder is certified as the skipper and navigator, to be responsible for the safety of his/her sailing vessel and crew, while making offshore passages within 150 miles of the coastline, where navigational and weather hazards exist, in any conditions, at any time day or night.
    Yachtmaster Ocean:

  • Must stand a rotational navigational watch as skipper, or watch-captain for the duration of the course. More details
  • 500 miles.
    Course to cover a minimum of 200 miles while more than 50 miles offshore.

    The holder is certified as the skipper and navigator, to be responsible for the safety of his/her vessel and crew for ocean passages, where navigational and weather hazards exist, in any conditions, at any time day or night.
